A Message from Our President

As the grandson of the founders and the third president of Laurinburg Institute, I consider it both an honor and a deeply personal privilege to share this message with you. Our story is one of faith, resilience, and unwavering belief in the power of education to transform lives.

I understand the frustrations many parents feel today—the worry that their children aren’t receiving the education they deserve. Perhaps you’ve asked yourself, "Will my child’s education prepare them for a future filled with opportunity?" Or maybe you’ve grown weary of the challenges faced by schools—crime, drugs, gangs, bullying, low expectations—that seem to overshadow what should be a nurturing environment for growth and learning.

If you’ve found yourself searching for a place where your child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally, I want to invite you to consider Laurinburg Institute, a small but mighty boarding school in North Carolina. Since 1904, we have been dedicated to offering a safe, supportive, and high-quality education—an education rooted in character, leadership, and integrity. Here, we believe that every child has the potential to achieve greatness. We hold high expectations for our students, not just because we want them to succeed academically, but because we see their potential to become leaders and change-makers in the world. With small class sizes, individualized attention, and a staff that genuinely cares about each student’s well-being, we create an environment where learning becomes personal, meaningful, and inspiring.

As a school with a rich history of educating African-American youth, we remain committed to preserving the values my grandparents instilled over a century ago—faith, perseverance, dignity, and the pursuit of excellence. At Laurinburg Institute, your child will not only gain a strong academic foundation but also develop the confidence, character, and skills needed to navigate life’s challenges.

We are more than a school—we are a family. A family that believes education is the key to unlocking the doors of opportunity. We are here to walk this journey with you, to nurture your child’s potential, and to prepare them for a future beyond what they ever imagined.

I invite you to visit us, learn more about our programs, and see for yourself what makes Laurinburg Institute a place where students don’t just learn—they grow, lead, and thrive. Thank you for considering us as a partner in your child’s education. We look forward to welcoming you to the Laurinburg family.

Warm Regards,
Frank H. “Bishop” McDuffie, Jr.
